Most "slow network" complaints are cabling problems, not bandwidth problems.
## Pick the right cable - **Cat6** - fine for 1Gbps to the desk, the default for most offices. - **Cat6A** - choose it for uplinks, Wi-Fi 6/6E access points and any run you do not want to redo in five years. - Always use pure copper. CCA cable fails PoE loads and heats up.
## Rack and pathway rules 1. Keep data and power cables in separate trays with at least 300mm separation. 2. Leave 1U gaps around switches for airflow. 3. Terminate to patch panels - never straight into the switch. 4. Service loops of 2-3m at both ends save you on future moves.
## Labelling that survives Label both ends with the same ID: FLOOR-RACK-PORT, for example 2-A-14. Keep a printed port map inside the rack door and a copy in the facility folder.
## Test everything Every link should be certified with a cable tester for wiremap, length, NEXT and insertion loss. Ask your vendor for the test reports - a professional installer will hand them over without being asked.
## Power and protection Put the rack on a UPS with correct runtime, add surge protection at the incoming supply, and earth the rack properly.
